Dahlias that have already bloomed cannot be left in the ground for more than two weeks.
Summer residents should trim the bushes and only then remove the bandage. After that, dig around the dahlia along the perimeter of the bush. The shovel should be placed vertically.
Using careful, rocking movements, remove the tubers from the soil.
Still carefully, shake off any soil stuck to the tubers.
The next stage is drying. However, it can be neglected if the weather in your region was dry with little rain. Dry dahlia tubers can be immediately stored.
But even they should be examined carefully first.
If the old tubers are empty and have a decrepit appearance, be sure to remove them to avoid root rot later.
Unnecessary dried parts should also be trimmed, since new shoots will only form on healthy tubers.
