Some people notice that experienced gardeners are busy with one interesting procedure towards the end of August: they pick off cucumber leaves.
You might think that we are talking about fighting a disease and people are simply removing the affected parts of the plant.
But this is not so.
Why do experienced gardeners remove cucumber leaves at the end of summer?
Greenhouse
If we are talking about growing cucumbers in a greenhouse, then removing excess foliage will be an excellent preventative measure against increased humidity.
This will protect vegetables from many diseases.
For crop yield
If the plant does not spend resources on maintaining the foliage in a decent condition, it will be able to focus on high-quality fruiting.
As a result, the yield will be higher.
Diseases
By removing unnecessary leaves, the risk of spreading fungal infections and other diseases will be significantly lower.
When performing the procedure, leave the "feeding" leaves, and the rest can be safely removed. It is easy to identify such a leaf: it is located next to the fruit. You can also leave a few more nearby.
