In addition to time indicators and folk signs, there are much more precise signs that it is time to harvest pears and apples in the garden.

This question occupies the minds of beginning gardeners at the end of summer. You can’t rush with harvesting, just as you can’t delay it – you can end up without a harvest.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how to determine the ripeness of fruits.

Experienced gardeners are guided not by folk signs, but by physical signs of fruit ripeness.

The fruits are ripe

Firstly, ripe apples and pears can be torn from the branch along with the stalk with one hand.

Secondly, you can start harvesting if the harvest has started to fall on its own. At the same time, there should be no signs of disease or pest damage on the falling fruits.

Thirdly, if we are talking about apples, then pay attention to the color of the peel at the very stalk. In a ripe fruit, it becomes light.

Fourthly, if an apple or pear is ripe, then when you press on the sides of the fruit, you will be able to see dents.

It is bad if the skin of the fruit can be pressed through – this is a sign of overripe fruit that will not be stored.

Fifth, cut an apple or pear lengthwise and assess the color of the seeds inside. If the fruit is ripe, the seeds inside will turn brown.
