How to Make Cucumbers Bear Fruit Before Frost: 5 Tips

12.07.2024 10:40

Many summer residents know about the possibility of extending the fruiting period of cucumbers.

At the same time, there is a widespread opinion that it is impossible to “force” a plant to bear fruit before the first frost.

In fact, it is quite possible to achieve such a result, unless, of course, the garden crop is not growing in open ground.

The owner of a country plot will be able to harvest in the fall if he performs several important actions.

Removing excess leaves

It is necessary to remove the leaf blades located below the fruits.

When the lower part of the trunk becomes completely “empty”, it will be necessary to add soil and use mulching material.

Proper feeding

You can make the plant “stronger” at the end of the summer season with the help of… dry yeast.

Take a deep container, pour half a liter of water into it and add 1 tbsp of the above-mentioned product and a similar amount of granulated sugar.

After mixing thoroughly, leave the mass "alone". And after 3-4 hours, dilute the prepared mixture with warm plain water (5 l).

The result will be fertilizer. It should be added to water for irrigation. The resulting product will be enough for a bucket of water.

Another way to increase the fruiting period of cucumbers is to use a fertilizer such as cow manure infusion.

Protection from diseases and pests

Appropriate preventive measures should be used weekly.

Use of covering material

Starting from the final third of summer, the plant will need to be covered with something at night.

It is advisable to use some natural covering material.

Proper watering

At the end of summer, cucumbers need to be watered less often than in the middle of this time of year.

If the air temperature is from +18 to +20 degrees, then the water consumption should be a maximum of 2 liters per bush.

If the temperature is around +15 degrees, then 0.5 l per plant will be enough.
