Don't Make These Mistakes in Your Tomato Garden: 5 Things Tomatoes Don't Like

Tomatoes are, by and large, an unpretentious crop. However, even they "can't stand" some things.

There are certain things you should not do when growing these plants.

Of course, if you want to get an abundance of tasty large fruits.

Nitrogen

One of the mistakes is related to fertilizing. In particular, nitrogen. If there is too much of it, the fruits will set with great difficulty.

It is worth remembering: if the soil is cultivated and contains a lot of humus, then nitrogen fertilizers do not need to be applied when planting tomatoes.

If the soil is poor, then well-rotted manure or compost is added.

Lowlands and cold

Another mistake is planting in lowlands or places with cold, damp air, especially windy ones.

Tomatoes are heat-loving. At temperatures below +10 degrees they stop growing, and if below +5 they may die.

Shadow

The third mistake is planting in deeply shaded areas. Tomatoes cannot bloom and bear fruit normally in such conditions.

By the way, if tomatoes receive plenty of sunlight in the morning and evening, but remain in the shade during the day, they can bear fruit well.

They also “will not be offended” if they are in the sun in the morning and during the day and end up in the shade in the evening.

Soil

The fourth mistake is cold soil. If its temperature is below +16 degrees, the plant stops developing.

As a result, the tomatoes turn blue and die.

If the temperature drops below 5 degrees Celsius, the tomatoes die.

Therefore, you should not plant them too early – before the soil warms up.

Such conditions are stressful for plants. They can recover later, but it will take time.

Same place

The fifth mistake is growing in one place for a long time.

In this case, plants can take certain substances from the soil, thereby depleting it.

In addition, various pathogens, including spores of pathogenic fungi, can accumulate in the soil.

Earlier we talked about why many people incorrectly apply ash to their gardens.
