31.05.2024 14:50

Experienced gardeners follow a watering schedule and always fertilize. With the onset of June, it's time to think about the blackcurrant harvest.

Don't rely on the power of nature. To get a good harvest of large berries, summer residents need to think about fertilizing.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to feed black currants.

Why in June

Without June fertilizing, not all gardeners manage to achieve high currant yields.

The applied fertilizers allow large berries to form, the formation of which begins at the beginning of summer.

What to feed

Mineral fertilizers are recommended for summer residents.

For example, superphosphate – 10-12 grams per 10 liters of water, is used for irrigation.

You can add a top dressing based on wood ash. It is scattered around the bushes, and then watered (100-150 g of ash for black and 200 g for red or white currants).

From organic matter, an infusion based on rotted manure is used (2 kg per 10 liters of water, infused for 3-4 days).

Consumption: 10 liters per adult bush and five liters for young plants.
