May is a good month for planting fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs, including lilacs.

According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , the end of summer is still far away, so they will have time to take root.

Lilac planting technology

Varietal lilacs need additional feeding and good soil - if, of course, you are counting on lush inflorescences and large petals.

Therefore, the hole for planting must be made deep, then filled with loose soil and be sure to add a complex fertilizer, which includes prolonged-action macro- and microelements.

It is necessary to thoroughly mix the fertilizer with the soil, then add another layer of soil and only after that is it allowed to plant the seedling - in this case, you will be able to avoid burning the roots. Moreover, due to the location of the fertilizers, the root system will actively grow in search of nutrients.

Firm the soil after planting to avoid excessive settling when watering.

You shouldn't plant lilacs too deep, especially for grafted varieties - they should be located strictly above the soil level.

During the spring and early summer, you can fertilize plants by distributing granules around the trunk circle at a distance of 8-10 centimeters from the trunk, making a small furrow and pouring fertilizer into it.

One plant will require 60-90 grams of fertilizer, depending on its size.

After fertilizing, water the bushes and sprinkle the trunk circle with dry soil or apply mulch to retain moisture and prevent weed growth.
