The purpose of compost is to help plants become fruitful, healthy and beautiful.
Expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh shared advice on the correct use of compost depending on the needs of specific plants.
Using compost in spring
In spring, compost should be used for plants that are sown and from which beds are formed. Fully mature compost with a fine consistency is suitable. It should be added in small portions to furrows in the ground.
As a result, seedlings will appear faster, garden crops will grow more actively, and the harvest will be larger.
Mulching with compost
Crops in the beds will grow faster, and flowers in the flower beds will bloom better if you mulch them with compost. Organic matter prevents weed growth and saturates the soil and, accordingly, the plants with essential elements.
Two-year-old compost is suitable for mulching.
Compost in greenhouses
If you want to improve the soil and replenish the reserves of useful substances in the greenhouse, turn to compost for help. Thanks to its "support", it will be easier for you to fight pests and plant diseases.
Compost for roses
In the rose garden, compost from rotted horse manure should be used every spring. But on the contrary, it is not worth using the composition for hilling roses before covering them, in order to avoid infectious damage to flowers and their death.
