Whether tomatoes will produce a good harvest depends largely on how they are watered.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, told us how to properly water tomatoes in a greenhouse.
How to water tomatoes in a greenhouse
The main mistake gardeners make when watering tomatoes is using cold water.
This is strictly prohibited. The water temperature should be 23-24 degrees.
As for the frequency of watering, twice a week is enough. In cloudy cool weather, watering is reduced, in hot weather, water more often.
The optimal time for watering is the second half of the day, but it is better not to water late in the evening. After evening watering, the greenhouse must be ventilated.
In cloudy weather, watering is done before midday. The vents and doors of the greenhouse should be open during watering.
Try to avoid water getting on the stems and leaves. Also, do not loosen the soil immediately after watering.
It is extremely important to monitor the air temperature in the greenhouse. The optimal temperature during the day is 20-25 degrees, at night - 17-19 degrees.
If the air temperature rises above 28 degrees, tomatoes will begin to grow faster than they should, which will cause the ovaries to be early and unsightly.
If the temperature exceeds 30 degrees, tomatoes will stop blooming and the ovaries will fall off. At 40 degrees, tomatoes may die.
