Many gardeners prefer to use wood ash to feed potatoes.

It is both a valuable fertilizer and an effective remedy against pests, including wireworms.

However, ash should be used with caution, warns Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert from the online publication Belnovosti, an agronomist, and a landscape designer.

Is it possible to feed potatoes with ash?

It depends on the acidity of the soil. Ash alkalizes it, and potatoes grow well in slightly acidic soil.

If the soil in the area is acidic, you can add ash; if it is neutral or slightly acidic, it is better to use other fertilizers.

It is also important to consider that excess ash can cause potatoes to become infected with scab.
