The yield of a particular garden crop depends not only on the quality of the soil, the amount of fertilizer applied and the frequency of watering.

It is also important what kind of “neighbors” the plant gets.

This also applies to tomatoes. There are crops that are worth planting next to a representative of the nightshade family.

There are also plants that should not grow next to tomato bushes.

Good and bad "neighbors" for tomatoes were listed by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Bad "neighbors" for tomatoes

Let's start with crops that should not be planted next to tomatoes in open ground.

First of all, we are talking about plants that belong to the same family as tomatoes: potatoes, eggplants, peppers.

"Relatives" should not grow close to each other, as they will take away nutrients from each other. In addition, there is a high risk of rapid spread of diseases.

Corn and cauliflower are also bad "neighbors" for tomatoes.

Good "neighbors" for tomatoes

It is worth planting beans next to tomatoes in open ground: thanks to the latter, the soil will become more suitable for growing tomatoes.

Also, do not forget about the importance of "green fertilizers" - green manure. Phacelia will be an excellent "neighbor" for tomato bushes: it will provide the main crop with protection from late blight.

In addition, it makes sense to plant any of the following plants next to tomatoes: carrots, onions, sorrel, parsley, beets.

Earlier, summer residents were told how to feed radishes for large turnips.
