If you are a fan of the lush bloom and enchanting aroma of peonies, help the flowers to be just that.

To do this, as the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh says, one should take a responsible approach to choosing a place for planting bushes.

Although sunny places are a priority, partial shade will also do.

You need to make sure that the soil is well drained, meaning that water does not stagnate there.

In addition, the soil must be fertile. The following signs will help determine whether the soil meets this criterion.

The soil should be dark in color – this “color” indicates that it contains a lot of organic matter.

Fertile soil is always lumpy and moist and allows oxygen to flow freely to the roots of plants.

As a rule, if the soil boasts fertility, it has a neutral or slightly alkaline pH.

The fertility test also involves using such a sense as smell: smell the soil - it should have a light earthy smell, in no case should it smell like ammonia or another repulsive "aroma".

Finally, you should make sure that earthworms are actively active in the area where you plant peonies - they are necessary for processing organic matter and enriching the soil with nutrients.
