How a gardener can tell that seedlings have started to stretch: these signs cannot be ignored

Stretching out seedlings can lead to weakening of the plants and, accordingly, a decrease in the quantity and quality of the harvest.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh described seedlings that should be given more attention so as not to have to face the negative consequences described above.

The seedlings that have begun to stretch out look much taller than usual and have wide and large internodes.

The plants are light green, the leaves are developed normally, but have an elongated shape and are long. In turn, long leaves and thin stems can indicate a lack of light, incorrect temperature and a lack of nutrients in the soil.

However, in 9 cases out of 10 the problem is related solely to a lack of light.

You should not immediately place such plants on a site that is abundantly illuminated by the sun. You also do not need to install additional lighting, as this can lead to burns.

Instead, elongated seedlings (if we are talking about tomatoes and cabbage) should be planted deep.

In this case, you need to make sure that the planting site is not under direct sunlight, and that the hardening by the sun occurs gradually. Shade the plants for the first 3-4 days - this time is enough for them to adapt to the new lighting conditions.

In this case, you can be sure that the plants will not get burned and will grow normally.
