You can use both regular baking soda and calcined soda in the garden.
How this product can help a gardener and vegetable grower was explained by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
Benefits of soda
Soda can come to the rescue when you set yourself the task of destroying powdery mildew. To do this, you will need to dilute 2 tablespoons of baking soda or 1 tablespoon of calcined soda in a bucket of water, as well as 50 g of laundry soap.
The resulting product can be used to treat gooseberries, phlox, cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkins.
Baking soda will also come in handy when you are preparing a copper-based composition. Thanks to its presence, the copper will be released much more slowly, while acting softly and reliably.
To prepare a mixture of soda and copper sulfate, or, more simply, Burgundy liquid (mixture), you will need 100 g of copper sulfate, 100 g of baking soda (80 g of soda ash), 80 ml of liquid soap (not laundry soap) and 10 liters of water.
When creating a solution, it is important to follow the order of mixing the components. Heat the water and dissolve 100 g of copper sulfate in it. In another container, dilute the soda in warm water, then add liquid soap to this solution. When the copper sulfate is completely dissolved and the water has cooled, slowly pour in the soap-soda solution, stirring constantly. Bring the volume of the resulting solution to 10 liters.
When soda doesn't help
Soda is not suitable for neutralizing acidic soils or for combating yellowing of cucumber leaves caused by a lack of nitrogen or potassium. Using soda in these cases can only make the situation worse.
You should not sprinkle soda on your beds to protect your plants from slugs, as this can lead to loss of soil fertility.
