Not so long ago, watermelon was considered an exclusively southern plant.
But cunning gardeners and summer residents have adapted it to regions with a much cooler climate.
Yes, today there are many varieties and hybrids of melons that can delight you with tasty and juicy berries.
However, there is a very important point: the crops should be planted at a strictly defined distance from each other, otherwise there may be no harvest.
More details about this were provided by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
To begin with, before planting, we will loosen the soil in the prepared bed and make holes 3 to 4 centimeters deep.
The distance between holes is ideally from 70 to 100 centimeters, and between rows – up to 2 meters.
If your plot does not have enough space for sowing according to these parameters, then the distance between rows can be reduced to 1 - 1.5 meters.
When planting, you can add compost, humus, and a glass of ash to the hole. They should be thoroughly mixed with the soil.
As for the seeds, we put one sprouted seed per hole. If dry seeds are used, you can put two seeds per hole (if both sprout, the weakest sprout is removed).
Afterwards, we fill the holes with the seeds and water the bed with warm water, and until the shoots appear, we cover the seeds with film or covering material.
Earlier we talked about what grows well next to tomatoes.
