It is unlikely that any summer resident wants to spend their time and energy growing vegetables, fruits or greens that end up being inedible.

That is why we asked the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh to answer the question that worries absolutely all gardeners: why does leaf lettuce sometimes grow bitter?

Reasons for the bitterness of lettuce

First of all, it is worth remembering that lettuce belongs to the group of plants that are resistant to cold, so at high air temperatures they can become bitter.

The appearance of an unpleasant bitter taste is influenced not only by temperature, but also by the amount of light falling on the salad.

If your site is in an area with lots of sun, provide some cover when the lettuce begins to actively grow.

For this purpose, a covering material with low density is suitable.

As a result of the reduction in ultraviolet radiation, the lettuce will no longer experience stress, which means that the bitterness, which is a reaction to a stressful situation, will go away.

Earlier, BelNovosti wrote about how to properly use tobacco dust for powdering.
