The reason for slow growth and poor flowering of roses may also be an unsuccessful selection of companion plants.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, talks about the worst neighbors for roses.

What should not be planted next to roses

It is strictly forbidden to plant mint near roses. It will fill the entire rose garden, getting rid of it will be very problematic.

Secondly, ground cover plants that form rooting stolons, such as tenacious plants, are not planted with roses.

Such plants will take away nutrition from the roses and interfere with their care.

Plants that require acidic soils (rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas) also do not get along with roses.

It is also believed that it is undesirable to plant bulbous plants (lilies, hyacinths, tulips) and paniculate phlox with roses, but this is a dubious statement. With proper care, such a neighborhood is quite acceptable.
