When planting plants in the trunk circle of an apple tree, it is necessary to take into account that not all crops are suitable for this.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, tells us which plants should not be planted under an apple tree.

What you can't plant under an apple tree

Firstly, spicy herbs – parsley, basil, mint, sage – have a depressing effect on the apple tree.

Secondly, you cannot plant sunflowers around or near an apple tree. Their roots secrete substances that inhibit the absorption of nutrients by other plants.

Thirdly, you should not plant lilies of the valley, periwinkle and roses in the tree trunk circle.
