Before planting tomato seedlings in the garden, you need to carefully prepare the soil.

Experienced gardeners do not recommend using mineral fertilizers in this case. They should be left until the flowering period and the beginning of fruiting.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told what additives to add to a future tomato bed.

How to Prepare the Soil Before Planting Tomato Seedlings

Preparation is carried out in several stages.

1. No later than three weeks before the expected transplantation of tomatoes, add bone meal to the bed. Consumption is 300 g per 1 sq. meter.

If the moment is missed, then about a week before transplanting, water the bed with an infusion of bird droppings.

Of the mineral fertilizers, only granulated superphosphate can be added.

2. The next important point is watering the bed with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, which is planned a day before transplanting the seedlings.

3. When transplanting tomato bushes, add the following to the holes:

  • wood ash (source of potassium) - 100 grams;
  • onion peel (used as fertilizer and protection against pests and diseases);
  • eggshell.
