One of the first and most striking decorations of a garden and a country flowerbed can safely be called a tulip.
Many gardeners plant bulbs in the fall. They tolerate cold well, harden over the winter, and are guaranteed to bloom in the spring.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told whether it is possible to plant tulips in the spring.
Spring planting of tulips
First, you need to wait until the soil temperature rises to 9-10 degrees Celsius.
Secondly, in order for tulips to grow and bloom, it is advisable to choose the most secluded place, that is, protected from the wind and well lit by the sun.
Thirdly, you need to be prepared for the fact that spring tulips will not bloom as lushly as those planted in the fall. Therefore, you need to choose the right variety.
Where to plant
Oddly enough, there are three options:
- in a container with subsequent transplantation;
- directly into the ground;
- in a container without replanting.
How to Plant Tulips
1. First, you need to select healthy bulbs, that is, dry, strong, without damage.
2. Mineral fertilizers are added to the soil, but compost or manure is also possible.
3. It is necessary to get rid of debris and stones in the planting area, and as a result the soil should be loose.
4. The holes are prepared depending on the size of the bulbs. For small ones – 5 cm deep and 10 cm for large ones. The distance between the planting sites should be at least 10 cm.
5. Place the bulbs in the holes with the pointed part facing up, sprinkle with soil, and water.
