By planting certain crops next to cucumbers, you can lose your harvest.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, explains what should never be planted near cucumbers.
What is not planted next to cucumbers
Firstly, you shouldn’t plant tomatoes next to or in the same greenhouse with cucumbers; they need different conditions.
Tomatoes love moderate heat, ventilation and moisture only in the root zone.
Cucumbers require warmth, high humidity and abundant watering with irrigation.
In addition, these crops have a common disease - late blight. Late blight can cause irreparable damage to crops.
It is not recommended to plant other crops from the nightshade family (peppers, potatoes, eggplants) near cucumbers.
Also bad neighbors for cucumbers are watermelons, melons, onions, garlic and herbs (basil, rosemary, thyme). Dill, arugula and mint can be planted near cucumbers.
Favorable neighbors for cucumbers are legumes, cabbage, beets, corn, sunflower, celery, grapes, spinach, nasturtium, and calendula.
