As is known, the Exhibition onion is usually grown using the seedling method.
For this purpose, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh advises using special soil for sowing onions or the same as for cucumber seedlings.
Alternatively, mix biohumus (30% of the total volume), garden soil (30%), peat (30%) and ash (10%). Mix everything well and add biological preparations, for example, "Gliokladin".
The cells are then filled with soil and a seed is placed in each cell.
Before sowing, it is recommended to treat the seeds with standard biopreparations. You can also bubble the onion seeds, that is, saturate them with oxygen, for 24 hours. This will help stimulate the growth of microorganisms that will promote seed growth.
The procedure is carried out at home using a regular aquarium compressor to supply air.
The seeds covered with soil must be sprayed with a solution of a biological preparation.
After this, the container with seeds is placed in a permanent place and covered with film until the first shoots appear. After the onion has sprouted, the film is removed and the soil moisture and temperature in the room are monitored. Onion "Exhibition" requires bottom watering, that is, in a tray, to prevent rotting of young seedlings.
Since the vegetation period of this onion is very long, it is worth starting to sow seedlings in February-March. Although, if you sow the seeds later, the harvest will still be good, albeit not as big as in the advertisement. But such an onion will be tasty and healthy.
When the shoots reach a height of 10-12 cm, do not forget to trim them. The seedlings are transplanted to a permanent place when suitable weather comes.
