Growing good pepper seedlings can be difficult, as this is a rather capricious crop.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh talks about five mistakes in growing peppers that even experienced gardeners make.
What not to do with pepper seedlings
Firstly, young pepper seedlings should not be watered frequently or abundantly.
Water in small portions and only after the top layer of soil dries out. Ideally, it should dry out in two to three days.
The second mistake is low room temperature. The optimal temperature for pepper seedlings is 22 degrees.
If you practice hardening off seedlings before planting them in open ground, do not allow the temperature to drop too sharply.
Thirdly, in the early stages it is important to protect the seedlings from drafts.
During ventilation, boxes with seedlings must be removed from the windowsill.
The fourth mistake is transplanting too early. You should not transplant seedlings before four true leaves appear.
Fifthly, when replanting, the soil ball must not be disturbed.
Pepper is very sensitive to any damage to the roots, cutting or cleaning them is strictly prohibited. Pepper seedlings are transplanted together with the earth lump.
