The vast majority of summer residents believe that good growth of seedlings depends on the soil, stimulants and other additives, but in reality this is not entirely true.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh agreed to talk about the little things that are vital for seedlings.
Insulation for seedlings
Instead of mats, which are used to insulate the place where seedlings are grown, it is recommended to use insulation. This is due to the fact that the soil temperature in cups and boxes is usually lower than the air temperature in the room.
How to check? Using a regular thermometer stuck into the soil.
If the soil temperature is low, the tomato stem will be purple, which is a sign of phosphorus deficiency, because as the temperature drops, plants begin to absorb phosphorus in smaller quantities, as well as other elements.
Here is the reason why it is worth using insulation. Use a simple option that is not even created for seedlings - it will still do a great job of insulating the window sill and will repel sunlight, which will make the plants lighter.
Litmus strips
Water in our regions is often hard, with a high content of carbonates. Settling, freezing and boiling water leads to the fact that hardness salts acquire a form inaccessible to plants, and although they are not absorbed by the roots of seedlings, they prevent the absorption of nutrients by plants.
This results in a deficiency of potassium, boron and the above mentioned minerals.
And you shouldn't forget about such a factor as water acidity either. And those same litmus strips will help you determine this parameter.
Earlier we wrote about what to do to ensure that seedlings never stretch out again.
