How to choose the best greenhouse for your site: the main criteria - there are only four of them

Why do you need a greenhouse on your property?

This question is not so easy to answer: such a design is vital if you want to get strong seedlings, protect plants from temperature fluctuations, and extend their fruiting period, lists the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Today we will tell you what to pay attention to when choosing a greenhouse.

Frame

The frame is one of the main elements of the structure, and its strength determines the durability of the greenhouse.

A wooden frame is budget-friendly and easy to assemble, but it is susceptible to moisture and can be damaged by pests. A plastic frame is lightweight, resistant to moisture and chemicals, but its strength may not be sufficient. A metal profile frame is strong and durable, but can be subject to corrosion and is more expensive. As you can see, each option has its pros and cons.

Coating

The second key element of the greenhouse design is the covering. An inexpensive, but not the most durable material is polyethylene film, which requires periodic replacement. Glass is considered more durable and long-lasting, as it can withstand high temperatures, humidity, and even snow loads. However, it has the disadvantage of overheating and additional weighting of the structure.

Polycarbonate is an excellent alternative to glass. It transmits light well and retains heat inside the greenhouse without weighing down the structure. Despite its strength, polycarbonate has one significant drawback – fragility when using thin sheets.

Form

The shape of the greenhouse can be different: single-pitched (usually used if there is little space on the site), double-pitched (more expensive, but roomy and convenient) or arched (less expensive, but has less usable space).

Mobility

It is also worth deciding on the mobility of the greenhouse: whether it will be stationary or collapsible. In summer cottages, where the owners are not often, temporary greenhouses are usually installed, and in areas near the house you can install a stationary structure.

Earlier, the expert told what needs to be done with the soil in the greenhouse in the spring.
