Zamioculcas, also known as the dollar tree, is a popular houseplant.
According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , several types of this flower can be found on sale, and all of them can be propagated at home using a single leaf.
But in the case of zamioculcas, putting a cut leaf in water is not enough - you will have to bother with creating a wick irrigation system.
To do this, you will need 2 plastic containers - one slightly larger than the other. In the smaller one, make 2 holes.
Thread a piece of synthetic clothesline through each hole, then you can insert the smaller container into the larger one. The result will be a tray with a false bottom. Make sure that the ends of the rope reach the bottom of the lower container.
Let's prepare the soil mixture, for which you need to mix equal amounts of neutral high-moor peat and perlite.
This mixture should be filled into a smaller container, placing the top of the rope inside the soil.
To get a guaranteed result, try to stock up on several leaves, each of which should be lowered with the cut into the rooting agent, and then into the soil.
We prepare a mixture for wick irrigation by dissolving 1 g of vermicompost and 1 g of monopotassium phosphate in a liter of water.
Pour the resulting solution over the soil and leaves to moisten the rope inside the container. Then drain the remaining liquid into the lower container.
This liquid will slowly seep through the rope and feed the plant with moisture and nutrients.
Monitor the liquid level in the lower container and top it up as needed, approximately once every 5-7 days – after a month you will notice that small tubers and roots have formed on the leaves.
