Many people, especially novice gardeners, are concerned about the question of how far apart tomatoes should be planted when growing this crop in open ground.

We turned to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh and received the following answer.

According to the expert, the distance between tomato plantings in open ground depends on several factors, including the tomato variety.

So, there are tall determinate tomatoes that can reach a height of up to 130 cm, there are also medium-sized ones - from 80 to 100 cm, as well as low-growing varieties - from 30 to 60 cm.

In open ground there are no strict restrictions on the distance between plantings, as is the case with a greenhouse.

However, to ensure optimal plant care and harvesting, it is recommended to follow the following guidelines.

For tall tomatoes, the distance between rows should be 80-100 cm, and between bushes - 70 cm. For medium-sized tomatoes, the distance between rows is 70-80 cm, between bushes - 50 cm. For low-growing tomatoes, the recommended distance between rows is 50 cm and between bushes 30 cm.

If you follow these tips, you can create optimal conditions for caring for your plants and harvesting.
