Fruit crops can be conditionally divided into self-fertile and self-sterile.
The harvest of the second group is possible only in the presence of pollinators, which are other plants.
Pollinating neighbors increase the yield of plants and self-fertile varieties.
Let's see which shrubs are recommended to be planted in pairs by the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti" and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.
What plants are best to plant nearby?
Here are some examples.
- Honeysuckle. A good pollinator for this shrub is the variety "Siglinka", which also increases the yield.
- Blueberries. Cross-pollination will increase the number of ovaries on the bush. Do not experiment and plant blueberries individually.
- Garden cranberry. It can self-pollinate, but it is better to plant a pair for cross-pollination.
- Actinidia. For several females, one pollinator is enough.
- Sweet cherry. The pollinator should grow no further than 10 meters - you need to choose the right pollinator variety.
