What to do for a summer resident in January: there are many important things to do besides seedlings – don’t forget about them

Although we take a break from gardening and vegetable growing in January, there are some types of work that cannot be delayed.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh answered the question of what actions can be taken now?

Preparing cuttings for grafting

Select cuttings of seed and stone fruit crops to use for spring grafting. To do this, tie last year's mature shoots with well-developed productive soils and a length of 40-45 cm into bundles and place them in damp sand in a basement or cellar.

Checking the protection of fruit trees from rodents

To protect plantings from hares, tie tree trunks with spruce branches, use old tights, stretch a fine-mesh net or cover the trees with roofing felt.

Planting planning

Use your spare moment to look around the area and remember what grew where last year. Based on this, create a new planting plan.

Saturating the soil in the greenhouse with moisture

If you managed to go to the dacha in January, the first thing you should do is throw snow into the greenhouse. Although it may seem to you that the new gardening season is still far away, time will fly by quickly, the snow will begin to melt, and the melt water will nourish the soil well, which is very useful.

By the way, pay attention to the snow lying on the greenhouse: if too much of it has accumulated, it certainly needs to be removed, since not every structure can withstand it.

Earlier we talked about flowers that grow larger than dandelions.
