If you're unsure what plants to plant in shady areas of your garden, here are some easy-to-care-for perennials that are suitable even for beginner gardeners or those who don't have much time to devote to gardening.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh helped to compile a list of perennials that are undemanding to sunlight.

Aquilegia

Aquilegia (you may have come across such a name as columbine) is an excellent choice for planting in both sunny and shaded areas.

Its leaves retain their attractiveness from early spring to late autumn, and flowering lasts from late May to July. After pruning the faded flowers, columbine can bloom again.

Primroses

Primroses are beautiful perennials that are perfect for flower beds in the shade.

This flower comes in many shapes and colours, the most attractive of which are the double primroses, which resemble miniature roses.

Variegated periwinkle

A ground cover perennial such as periwinkle does not even require any care – it can grow on its own both in open areas and in the shade.

Unlike its "relative", the common periwinkle, this variety attracts attention with its large variegated foliage and blue flowers that appear from April to June.

Earlier, the expert explained why plants need to be sprayed in winter.
