To get a good harvest of cucumbers, you need to choose the right seed material.

And for this, it is important to carefully study the inscriptions on the seed packages. What they mean, says the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

How to select cucumber seeds

The F1 symbol means that the seeds are of the first generation. Such varieties are obtained by crossing two or more other varieties.

Such hybrids have the best qualities of their predecessors. For example, they can have increased yield, frost resistance, resistance to diseases, etc. However, it will not be possible to collect seeds from such hybrids.

The letter S denotes elite varieties of cucumbers. The letter is often followed by the numbers 1 or 2, indicating the generation.
