A dangerous pest known as the whitefly can attack a variety of greenhouse crops, including eggplants, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.
As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, its larvae suck the juices from plants, slowing their growth and development, which leads to crop loss.
Therefore, do not postpone the fight against the parasite for later. To defeat the whitefly, you will have to use various methods, including chemicals and folk remedies, as well as carry out preventive measures.
Prevention
In autumn, it is necessary to remove all plant remains from the greenhouse and disinfect the hothouse by washing the walls and treating the soil with special agents. An excellent option is a solution of beauveria and metarhizium.
Disinfection of the greenhouse can also be carried out with the onset of spring, when you prepare the soil for planting seedlings.
Protective measures
There is no time to rest – after planting the seedlings, it is also necessary to take measures to protect the plants from whiteflies.
There are various commercially available products to control this pest, including pheromone traps and sticky tapes.
You can also use biological preparations based on the soil fungus Lecanicillium, which are effective against whitefly and spider mites - "Entolek" and "Antivreditel". Treatment with these preparations should be carried out once every 2-3 weeks to destroy the pest.
Why is it recommended to use biological preparations? The whole point is that whiteflies do not get used to them, unlike chemical poisons.
