When planting onion sets in the winter, you need to follow certain rules, otherwise you may lose the harvest.
How to plant onion sets so that they do not bolt and the harvest amazes the neighbors, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer.
How to plant onion sets
To prevent the onion from bolting, the seed material must be small.
Large ones are planted in harsh regions with frosts below 30 degrees. It is also extremely important to try new varieties.
Onions are planted a week before frosts (not to be confused with freezing). A couple of weeks before planting, the seed material should be kept at a temperature of +15 degrees.
After planting, it is recommended to water the bed with a 10% solution of ammonia (two tablespoons of ammonia per 5 liters of water).
