Before you start filling the flowerbed you have created on your plot, it would be a good idea to learn more about the compatibility of plants – not all of them are considered good neighbors.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh suggested talking about roses, or rather, about plants that have no place next to the queen of flowers.
So, don’t even consider combining them with hostas and ferns, since the latter, unlike roses, like to grow in the shade and high humidity.
Powerful trees are also prohibited – their root system can dry out the soil and, in addition, create a continuous shadow.
You should not choose heathers, rhododendrons and hydrangeas as neighbors for rose bushes, since they grow in acidic soils, which are completely unsuitable for roses.
Not the best option is a combination with primroses. There are several reasons for this: they can interfere with the pruning of roses, which is traditionally done in the spring, and they themselves can suffer during this procedure. In addition, when you dig up primroses, there is a risk of damaging the roots of the roses.
Primroses, which need shade, and dahlias, gladioli and tuberous begonias are also not suitable - they need to be dug up annually.
Finally, try not to place the queen of flowers and lilies next to each other - they will certainly drown out the delicate rose aroma.
