How to Grow Dill for Greens and for Pickling Umbrellas at the Same Time: Summer Cottage Tricks

Dill growing in the garden can be used for two purposes: as a tender and aromatic herb and for adding it to jars of preserves.

The problem is, as the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, that as soon as the umbrellas necessary for pickling appear on the bush, the greens from it become so tough and tasteless that they are not fit for food.

In this case, you should plant representatives of two different varieties on the site.

Below you will find varieties of dill, among the advantages of which is splendor and the ability to give green mass for a long time without entering the flowering period. These include:

• "Firework";
• "Amazon";
• "Buyan";
• "Dill";
• "Alligator" and others.

In turn, the following varieties of dill, on the contrary, produce little greenery and quickly produce umbrellas:

• "Dwarf";
• "Further";
• "Grenadier";
• "Umbrella" and others.

When growing several varieties of dill, gardeners recommend using the “bunch” method, mixing two varieties and sowing the greens not in rows, but in bunches in shallow holes, the diameter of which is about 10-15 cm.

Once the seeds are at the bottom, cover them with soil and water.
