Most indoor plants go into a dormant state in winter to accumulate strength before spring flowering, so fertilizing them is not recommended.

But there are also those that, on the contrary, bloom in winter. And for this to really happen, you need to add fertilizer.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told us which flowers need to be fed in winter.

Feeding alone will not improve the situation.

It is necessary to take into account the plants' needs for lighting, maintain the temperature regime, and at the same time control the air humidity.

Plants that bloom during the cold season require increased attention and feeding.

What flowers to feed

Firstly, these are violets, orchids and azaleas. The Christmas cactus also needs feeding.

What to feed

Firstly, it is best to use ready-made fertilizers from the store. Folk recipes do not guarantee that the plant will receive nutrients in the required volume.

Secondly, it is important to consider the type of plants.

Ornamental plants need one type of supplement, while flowering plants need another.

Specialized fertilizers are purchased for cacti, succulents and orchids.

Thirdly, folk or home fertilizers can be used, but not as the main, but as additional feeding.

Earlier we talked about whether it is possible to feed indoor flowers with coffee grounds and tea leaves.
