Some garden flowers absolutely cannot get along in the same flowerbed.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, tells us which flowers should not be planted together.
What plants are not planted next to each other
Firstly, roses and peonies do not get along. Peonies, especially tree peonies, have a negative effect on many plants.
Also, roses are not planted with asters, pansies, irises, heucheras, viburnum and bird cherry.
Secondly, flowers from the bulbous family – tulips, lilies, muscari, etc. – do not get along well with each other.
Thirdly, you shouldn't plant sweet peas and viola in the same flowerbed. The peas will oppress the viola.
Some plants harm all their neighbors. Aggressive plants include self-seeding plants (Alpine forget-me-not, Lychnis coronaria, Primrose, Tanacetum rotundifolia), plants with creeping rhizomes (May lily-of-the-valley, mint, biennial evening primrose, Lysimachia nummularia) and fast-growing plants (Byzantine stachys, Canadian goldenrod, Chinese saxifrage).
