Many summer residents use compost as a complete alternative to manure.

According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , you don’t need to bother with its preparation – just install a composter on the site and fill it with organic waste from time to time.

Below you will find a couple of tips on how to “erect” such a structure with your own hands.

So, the composter must consist of at least two compartments - this requirement is explained by the technological cycle of compost production.

If possible, take care of a third compartment, which will be useful for storing finished compost, “packed” in bags.

During the first year, you will only fill one of the sections, thus leaving the other empty. When spring comes next year, when last year's compost has thawed, you will need to transfer the unripened "top" from the fall to the bottom of the empty adjacent section, so that in the summer you can put compostable materials there.

A technical note: each box should be 1-1.5 m wide and 1-1.2 m high. If these proportions are violated, it will be difficult to maintain a suitable temperature for the life of microorganisms living in the compost.

We almost forgot – composter boxes are made without a bottom, which is a necessary condition for the reproduction of worms, and unloading will be easier if you make sure that the bottom part opens.
