Many summer residents strive to remove all signs of vegetation from their beds during the summer, but not all “weeds” need to be removed.

A good example is clover, which likes soil with a slightly acidic level.

An experienced gardener knows that this flower is a good green manure – it is able to saturate the soil with organic matter, nitrogen and other minerals.

Let's see what the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti" and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh thinks about clover.

Why plant clover

Clover roots protect the soil from weathering and erosion, while simultaneously loosening it.

This plant makes the soil loose, rich in oxygen and moisture. Clover helps the activity of beneficial soil bacteria that participate in the formation of humus.

It can be sown intentionally in early spring or summer. But in the case of summer planting, you will have to provide the clover with sufficient watering.

If you use clover as green manure, it is better to mow it before flowering begins and plant eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes and cabbage after 2 weeks.
