In winter, gardeners try to protect trees and shrubs from sunburn, pests and frost.
It is important not to forget about larger pests – hares and rodents, which can damage the bark of trees. They cause serious damage to gardens.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to protect trees.
How to cover trees
A popular method among people is to tie the trunks of fruit trees with burlap or old tights.
But there are opponents of this method, who say that pests can overwinter under the covering material.
But if you leave the trunks like this, especially young saplings, then the tree, gnawed by hares or damaged by mice, may die.
In this case, people practice the following method.
You will need:
- 4 kg of clay;
- the same amount of mullein (fresh);
- 90 g creolin;
- 85 g of malathion (concentrated).
How to proceed
The components are thoroughly mixed, water is added so that the mixture becomes like thick sour cream and it is applied to the trunks.
Cover the bark thoroughly, right down to the skeletal branches.
There is another, simpler recipe.
To do this, you need to mix naphthalene with fat in a ratio of 1:7.
Young trees need to be protected from rodents first and foremost.
