Ants, despite the benefits they bring, often cause a lot of trouble for gardeners: they gnaw berries and root crops, eat flower buds, and spread aphids.
Their favorite place to live is the greenhouse. And it can be difficult to drive them out of there.
However, there are two effective ways to get rid of them easily and for a long time.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to get rid of ants.
Method one: planting aromatic plants and spices
Ants, like many insects, cannot stand the smells of certain plants or spices.
Therefore, one of the most effective methods is to plant such plants along the perimeter of the greenhouse border. Plants such as:
• mint;
• marjoram;
• wormwood;
• chamomile;
• valerian;
• lavender;
• oregano.
Basil, rosemary, fennel or dill should be planted among vegetable sprouts to repel ants. Cinnamon, mustard or cloves can also be scattered on the ground with seedlings.
The second method: using infusions
If there is no possibility or desire to plant spicy and aromatic plants in the greenhouse, which will help get rid of ants, then you can use infusions or decoctions.
But there is a small nuance - they need to be watered specifically in places where ants gather or on the anthill itself. The most effective are:
1. Infusion of onion peel.
2. Infusion of crushed garlic.
Onions or garlic are poured with hot water and left for a day in a cool place. Then the resulting infusion is brought to a volume of 10 liters, adding ordinary water. And such a solution can be used immediately.
