The choice of lily varieties is striking in its diversity, but lily hybrids still attract special attention - primarily due to the number of inflorescences on one plant and their size.

BelNovosti online publication expert, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh revealed some of the tricks of growing giant lilies.

So, the first thing that flower growers should know is that despite the love of light that these plants show, their lower part must certainly be shaded.

Hence the conclusion: the ideal place for growing giant lilies is in partial shade.

At the same time, giant lilies need to be protected from drafts, and the idea of growing these perennial plants in areas with stagnant air should be abandoned.

Now – about the soil. The results of growing lilies will impress anyone if they grow in nutritious, loose and well-drained soil, which contains sand.

To plant lily bulbs, set aside a couple of days around the end of April – beginning of May. When lowering the planting material into the ground, choose a depth of 15-20 cm and keep a distance of about 30 cm between specimens.

These perennials need to be replanted no more than once every 3-5 years. After this procedure, do not forget to cover the flower with film, and then insulate it with spruce branches and foliage.
