In winter, true gardeners prefer to spend every day and every evening usefully.

Some people grow small greens or green onions on their windowsills, while others go further and even aim for a vegetable harvest.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told us what vegetables can be grown on a windowsill in winter.

Growing radishes at home

First, you need to choose a variety with a short ripening period, which include “Champion”, “Diego”, etc.

Secondly, you need a deep and spacious container. You need to make drainage holes in it.

Thirdly, the soil for radishes should be light, loose and neutral.

Fourthly, before planting, the seeds must be soaked on damp cotton pads. It is best to do this on a saucer covered with cling film.

Fifthly, sowing is carried out after the seeds have sprouted. They are placed in moist soil, not deep, observing the interval and distance so that it is not necessary to thin out the seedlings.

The seeds are sprinkled with dry soil, and the container is covered with film, leaving it in a warm place.

How to care

After the shoots appear, the container is removed to a bright place, and after another week the bed is hardened for 2-3 days, opening the greenhouse in a cool place.

Then return the container to the windowsill, keep it watered, and soon you will be able to harvest the radishes.
