Houseplants need occasional feeding, and you need to be able to navigate the abundance of nutritional supplements.

When there is no desire to delve into details, it remains to use time-tested folk remedies that are prepared from food waste.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to prepare fertilizer without leaving home.

1. Eggshell

This is a valuable product and a source of calcium and phosphorus. To use it as fertilizer, the shell is poured with a liter of water, infused for several days, and then watered. Only shells from fresh eggs are suitable, not boiled ones.

2. Rice water

Water left over from cooking cereals is used for fertilizing. This is a growth stimulant, a way to improve the soil structure and protect it from pests.

It is used not so much as a fertilizer as a means of loosening the soil. Coffee grounds are said to contain some nitrogen.

4. Banana peel

It contains potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium. The peel is poured with warm water and infused for several days. The resulting infusion is used for watering.

5. Cucumber peel

The peel of fresh cucumbers is used to protect against insects. It should be cut off, filled with water, the container should be covered with a lid and left for five days.

The resulting infusion is filtered and used to spray damaged plants.
