If you decide to fertilize your plot with the onset of autumn (and experienced gardeners know that this procedure is mandatory), remember that fertilizers must be deeply embedded into the ground.
The question “Why?” was answered by the expert of the online publication “BelNovosti”, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
So, to begin with, it is worth remembering that vegetable crops at the beginning of their growth, that is, in the first 30-40 days, absorb only one tenth of the nutrients from the soil.
The bulk of the food is consumed by them later, on the 40th to 50th day, and is used for the formation and maturation of the crop.
By the time fruiting or root crops begin to grow, plants have already acquired a developed root system, thanks to which they extract the substances they need from the depths of the soil.
This is the reason why fertilizers applied in the fall should be immersed in the soil to a depth of 20 cm (or even deeper).
The specific indicators depend on what kind of crop will be grown in the future in this bed, since each of them has roots reaching a certain depth.
And, of course, you should not forget about the need to apply fertilizers with the onset of spring, immediately before planting vegetables (as well as in the first month of their development), so that in that very first phase of their growth they receive enough nutrition.
