Autumn is a very suitable time for planting strawberries.

However, as the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh says, it often happens that the procedure has to be postponed until “better times”.

As a rule, such situations arise when the weather is unpredictable and autumn frosts come very early.

If you did not have time to place the seedlings in the ground, you can save them until spring. To do this, use one of the methods below.

The first of these is to bury the seedlings in a furrow made in the greenhouse and cover them with soil.

When the soil freezes, the strawberries should be covered using spruce branches or straw.

The second method is a little more complicated than the first, but they are equally effective. So, you need to cut the leaves of the strawberry seedlings and dig them out of the ground, without cutting the roots.

After the first step is done, proceed to the second - tie the plants into bunches of 20 pieces, and place the resulting bunches in a bag and leave them outside so that the strawberries freeze at a temperature of 3-5 degrees below zero.

At the final stage, place the seedlings in a box and sprinkle with sawdust. For storage, use a dry, dark and cool room, such as a barn.
