Mulching is carried out in order to reduce the amount of watering, get rid of weeds and for other purposes.
Thanks to mulch, the soil will not freeze too much or dry out in extreme heat.
But what to do if mold appears on the mulch?
Let's see what the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti" and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh thinks about this.
What to do if mold is found
If there is only a small amount of mold, you can try spot treating the infected area with Fitosporin-M as a weak solution.
If there is a lot of mold and the plants are in a depressed state, then this indicates serious problems.
You need to throw out the old mulch and let the soil dry out, and then loosen the beds and add new dry mulch.
Sometimes mulch gets wet and starts to mold even before it is laid on the ground. If the material is not yet covered with slime and does not have an unpleasant smell, it can still be saved.
Spread this mulch over the area and treat with a weak solution of fungicide.
