Those summer residents whose property has been invaded by horsetail know first-hand how difficult it is to fight this weed.
However, the goal of getting rid of horsetail is quite achievable, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer.
The first thing you should do is, armed with the knowledge that horsetail prefers acidic soil, start procedures to deacidify it.
For this purpose, lime or dolomite flour will do; sprinkle it on the ground and then dig it up.
Please note: this "operation" should be carried out more than once. Each time after its implementation, you need to "measure" the acidity of the soil, so as not to overdo it with the named preparations.
After this, herbicides are used, which, however, are not very effective due to the fact that the horsetail root system goes deep into the ground.
In addition, there is an opinion that after using such preparations, the area becomes unsuitable for growing crops.
Therefore, all that remains for you is to dig up the area and at the same time carefully remove the rhizomes of all weeds.
