Some summer residents manage without organic or mineral fertilizers when growing crops.

Tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, currants and other popular crops need various additives. But almost all fertilizers can harm plants if used incorrectly.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained why summer residents should be especially careful when using ammonium nitrate.

Harmful fertilizer

Firstly, the fertilizer is flammable and can react adversely with other organic compounds, such as carbonic acid.

Secondly, if you exceed the dosage, the acidity of the soil will increase. Because of this, the plants will grow lush greenery, but there will be very few fruits.

What is the best course of action?

First of all, you should carefully monitor the dosage. It is necessary to strictly calculate the amount of fertilizer used.

To prevent the soil from becoming acidic, it is worth using calcium carbonate with saltpeter.

In addition, when working in the garden, and especially with various fertilizers, it is necessary to use protective equipment.
