Yellowing peas can be a frustrating problem for gardeners.
Growing this annual herbaceous plant is not difficult, but sometimes yellowing can affect the quality of the peas and reduce their yield.
First of all, you need to pay attention to 3 main reasons that can cause a common problem with peas.
Why do pea leaves turn yellow?
Many of those who have had to grow peas in their gardens notice that the crop mainly turns yellow due to unfavorable conditions and diseases.
Not a suitable place for a garden bed
This unpretentious crop will grow poorly, wither and become ill if you choose an unsuitable place for planting.
It is best to choose a well-lit place for the garden bed, where there is no stagnant moisture.
Excessive moisture will cause root rot and the plant will die.
Watering peas
The plant will suffer if its watering is not organized correctly.
Try to stick to regular watering according to the following schedule:
- before flowering – once every 7 days;
- after flowering – 2 times in 7 days.
Incorrect feeding
If the peas do not have enough magnesium and nitrogen, they will turn yellow. To improve the soil, apply the following fertilizers in the fall:
- compost, humus, superphosphate, potassium salt.
To eliminate yellowing of leaves, it is useful to feed peas with the following solution:
- Add 5 g of urea and 5 g of magnesium sulfate to 5 liters of warm water.
Provide proper care for your peas and harvest them in baskets.
